For ages, teaching has been the essential thing that parents work to provide for their children a dignified education. we as teacher should appreciate every pennie that parents pay so their children can learn. I personally believe teaching is building student's character and improving self confidence. i believe teaching is not only related to the academic process such as homeworks and limited lessons, it is much more than that. teachers could give students life lessons they could use it in a specific situations.
As for teaching a language, me as an english teacher , i feel i am more interested in teaching my students to use that language more than getting familiar with the grammatical rules and patterns. teaching a language in order to interact with people who do not speak our native language is efficient. I would like my students to use that language whatever they do , in and outside the classroom . a lot of students have foreign relatives, for me i would be more than happy if one of my students was able to communicate with his canadian cousin because of the english courses that i gave . so in other words, the teaching process should have a long term effects on each students , it should affect them positively, they should be able to use that knowledge outside their schools.

ReplyDeleteYou are totally right! the view of learning languages should change. I remember when I was a student, all what they have taught us is grammar which was frustrating. We never practiced to speak the language to the degree we were shy to ask a question in English! Hope that we, as newly English teachers, will change this perspective.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can achieve what you want, and you can see the results of your hard work on your students. I also agree with that you don't need your students to be familiar with grammatical rules as much as you need them to be able to converse with English speakers.
